A Volume Knob is a manual level control you place in the signal path. Audio passes through it and comes out at the level you set.

When to use it#

  • One control for a group of sources instead of adjusting several wires
  • A mute switch you can reach quickly during a stream
  • A trim point in the middle of a long chain
  • Level control on a path where per-wire gain is awkward

Adding one#

Right-click the canvas → Mixing & Effects → Volume Knob.

Lanes#

A Volume Knob carries up to 8 independent paths, called lanes. Each lane is a separate pass-through: what enters lane 1 leaves lane 1, unmixed with lane 2.

The node shows the lanes you are using plus one free lane. Connect to the free lane and another appears, up to 8. A lane labelled Free lane - connect to add a path is unused.

This keeps a stereo pair on two lanes of one knob, under one control, without them being summed.

Range is -60 dB to +12 dB - narrower than per-wire gain, which goes to +36 dB.

The knob's gain applies to every lane at once - that is the point of it. For independent levels use separate knobs or per-wire gain.

A muted knob shows MUTED clearly on the node.

Use wire gain to balance your graph once. Use a Volume Knob for the level you actually keep changing.

Limits and gotchas#

  • 8 lanes maximum.
  • Lanes do not mix. To sum sources, route them into the same lane.
  • One gain value covers all lanes.
