Virtual ASIO makes Routling appear as an ASIO device inside your DAW, so the DAW and Routling exchange audio over many channels at ASIO latency.

When to use it#

  • Record Routling's routed audio into a DAW on separate tracks
  • Process DAW output through Routling's graph before it reaches your outputs
  • Use the DAW as an effects processor inside a live routing setup
  • Keep many discrete channels between the two, not just a stereo pair

For a simple stereo path, Routling I/O is simpler. Reach for Virtual ASIO when you need channel count or ASIO-grade timing.

Adding it#

Right-click the canvas → Mixing & Effects → Virtual ASIO.

The node shows two directions:

Only one Virtual ASIO node can exist at a time. Adding a second reports "Virtual ASIO module already exists".

Connecting the DAW#

In your DAW's audio settings, select Routling Virtual ASIO as its audio device. The channels then appear as ordinary inputs and outputs.

The node reports its state: ready once the DAW has connected, waiting until then. Connecting the DAW after adding the node is normal - it will move to ready.

Channel mapping#

Channels are numbered and pair up in order.

Route DAW tracks to specific outputs and they arrive on the matching Routling channels.

The DAW plays normally; Routling handles final processing and output routing.

Example - recording a stream mix#

Route your streaming sources into To DAW channels, then record them as separate tracks in the DAW while the stream continues.

Limits and gotchas#

  • One Virtual ASIO node.
  • Free tier caps at 4 in / 4 out even though the node shows 16.
  • The DAW must be set to Routling Virtual ASIO - the node does nothing until something connects.
  • Your DAW and Routling should agree on sample rate. A mismatch means the DAW will refuse the device or resample.
  • Do not route Routling's output back into a DAW track that is already feeding Routling. That is a feedback loop.
